It's here

The Museum of Industrial Olive- Oil Production is located in Agia-Paraskevi village and is housed in a restored, stone-built building (an old, communal olive-oil press) which dates back to 1910. The building is considered to be a typical sample of industrial architecture and it is numbered among the most significant buildings in Lesvos.

The museum was founded and designed by the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP), which is also responsible for its operation.

The aim of the museum is to present the industrial heritage of Lesvos in terms with the field of the olive-oil production and any other sector of technology. The visitors can be informed about the social, cultural and architectural background of Lesvos and witness the development of various machines. Very interesting are the changes that the mechanical power brought to the process of the olive-oil production.

In the main building the visitors can enable a comprehensive viewing of the three basic steps of the olive-oil production process (crushing the olives, pressing the olive-pulp, separating oil from water) and be informed about the auxiliary operation of the flour-mill.

Today, the former storage areas of the olive crop are used as auxiliary exhibition halls, in which exhibits present the human element to the olive-oil production. The larger storage areas contain detailed exhibits about the history of the former communal oil-mill of Agia-Paraskevi as well as its effects on the economic and the social life of the area. The visitors can view all the tasks related to the process of the olive-oil production.
